Dog dies after saving owner - Dog dies after saving its owner in a Georgia house fire. A man says his dog was more than a best friend -- he was a hero. Scott Dunn, speaking of his three-year-old boxer named Duncan said:
"Everybody who'd ever met him, loved him."
Duncan is being credited with saving Dunn's life after a fire at their home in Georgia.
"[I] laid down on the couch with my dog... went to sleep. And the next thing I know, he was pawing at me, barking and scratching," said Dunn.
Dunn said smoke inside the home was already thick when he awoke.
"I grabbed Duncan and went to the door and when I opened [it] the flames just went everywhere," he said.
He said Duncan planted his heels and wouldn't move.
"His collar came off. He wouldn't come," said Dunn. "I think he was just a scared as I was."
Dunn said he was so panicked, and had no choice but to run out.
"I went back in to get Duncan," he said. "I opened the door, but it was too hot. I couldn't go back in there."
"All of the windows had fire exposing out of them," said Lt. Mike Bell, of the Cobb County Fire Dept. "And we had fire in the garage and in the utility room."
Duncan never made it out and died in the fire.
"He saved my life, but I couldn't return the favor. It was too hot in there. I couldn't get back in."
